Period People: Lauria

Period People: Lauria

Your name - what should we call you?
My name is Lauria but I go by Law (my nickname)

What do you prefer - He/she/them or something else?
She is good to me.

Your age:
31

What do you do for a living?
I'm a lingerie designer

Where do you live?
Copenhagen

When did you start menstruating?
I think I started at 14, seems so far away already.

What’s your earliest menstruation memory?
I originate from a kind of “forever summer place”, living in France, so the earliest memory was: "damn! Now I am not able to go to the beach and swim” whenever I wanted to at least.

What words would you use to describe your feelings around your period those first period years?
I think for me it was a sense of being visible to others in a period I didn’t want the attention. I was scared that people could see I was on my period, so I stopped wearing white jeans for example.

How do you perceive your period now?
My perception has changed a lot. I've accepted that I bleed once a month and it actually just makes me a woman and human. And I think the confidence has grown with age. You know, if my period actually happened to be visible to others; well, I'm a woman and a human being and I should never accept neither shame or embarrassment for it.

How do you feel the days leading up to your period and during?
I always feel tired and like overeating.

What’s your go-to ritual on those first cycle days? Eating specific things? Cuddling? Cancelling plans?
My ritual is to not force anything. I’m trying to be soft. And I do happen to cry because of the hormones - I’ll even intentionally choose a love soap movie to get it going! And I’m all about eating popcorn or chocolate while watching it.

What’s your go-to period product?
At night time, it's a cup or period briefs for me.
In day time a cup and thin pads. Or in the end of my period instead of thin pads, thin period hipster shape.

Finnish the sentence: “The world would be a better place for menstruators if only…”
If only wasn't part of this sentence.
