Bloody Clean, laundry detergent
Menstrual panties can smell, regardless of brand. But instead of getting so-called "bacteria-inhibiting chemistry" in the panties, such as nanosilver or PFAS (read more under "How do they work?"), which are harmful to you and the environment, we have developed, with innovative technology and proven effectiveness, a very special detergent for your period panties, Bloody Clean, together with our nerdiest friends at Byoms.
Byoms develops detergents without harsh chemicals, without dyes and without enzymes, but with surface-active, plant-based ingredients and probiotics instead. It is so gentle that you can use it for your woolen clothes - and it can also effectively remove odors from your sports clothes.
Byoms was founded by Rikke Stein Omby and Anja Byrial Hansen in 2019. They concept-develop in Denmark and produce in their own factory in Lithuania. You can read more about Byoms right here.
Probiotics are living microorganisms that naturally occur both inside the human body and outside.
There are many different beneficial bacterial strains. Byoms uses a bacillus bacterial strain, which is a robust beneficial bacterium capable of surviving in a dormant state in the 'harsh' environment found in detergents.
15-30% plant-based anionic surfactants, <5% soaps, zinc ricinoleate, zinc lactate, microorganisms. 98.7% of the ingredients are of natural origin.
We are surrounded by both good and bad bacteria. Probiotics mean 'for life' and are the opposite of antibiotics (as you know from medicine; kills bacteria). But instead of killing the bacteria, we can work with probiotics that love dirt and grime, growing quickly and thereby taking over space from the bad bacteria. This is called competitive inhibition.
The smell can arise for several reasons:
- Poor hygiene - remember to change your panties frequently, just like your pad.
- Hormonal changes - this can lead to increased discharge during your menstruation, which can have a distinct odor.
- Menstrual blood itself - your menstrual blood consists not only of blood but also of uterine lining, among other things. When menstrual blood comes into contact with oxygen, it begins to break down, producing an odor.
- The smell occurs with a less thorough rinsing and washing routine."
Wash your menstrual panties in cold water after use - until the water runs clear.
Air-dry the panties inside out if you don't need to wash them.
When you're ready to wash, add Bloody Clean to the soap compartment. You'll need 2 tablespoons/20 ml for a full load. You can wash your other clothes together.
Bloody Clean is super concentrated, so avoid overdosing, as it may compromise the wash quality.
Wash at 40 degrees and hang to air dry.
The bottle, label, and cap are all made from 100% recycled plastic. Remember to recycle the bottle as plastic after use.
Bloody Clean is transported by car rather than by plane or ship to minimize CO2 emissions.
